Outdoor kitchens have become one of the highlighted features of new and refurbished homes. As the market grabs hold of the trend and continues to create new and useful features for outdoor kitchens, the design and functional possibilities are greater than they have ever been. Clients now have the ability to choose everything from the actual cooking implements to cabinet design. In fact, some landscaping designers have started using an outside kitchen as the centerpiece of their entire backyard garden layout.

The availability of these tools has made outdoor cooking a popular option because they have eliminated the previous problem of running back and forth from the grill to the inside kitchen as you made your other preparations.

Aside from the cooking implements, the availability of custom cabinetry and countertops has also contributed to growth in the popularity of outdoor kitchens. At the heart of every outdoor kitchen project is the homeowner's dream of what it will look like. The ability of designers to match this dream, and thus please their clients, has been drastically improved by development of new cabinet materials that will function well in an outdoor environment, but that are still aesthetically pleasing. Stone countertops, like granite, have also found a valuable home in the outdoor kitchen market. Standard laminated tops would never last in an outdoor setting. The particle board used as a base for the laminate would swell as soon as it got wet.

Quite a few features will offer a unique, but practical flair to your outdoor kitchen. They may seem like unnecessary extras at first, but they can actually be quite practical. Things such as icemakers and outdoor refrigerators further reduce the number of trips that you will have to make back inside as you cook. Outdoor kitchens will soon be so well furnished that you won't have to go back inside until you are ready to go to bed. Everything from prep work to washing the dishes can be done at your outdoor cooking center.

If you are looking for a unique selling point for your home, or just to increase the value for equity purposes, then look at what outdoor kitchens have done for other homes in your area. Check with some local realtors that you may know through a social club and see if you can get some reliable information. You may be surprised just how much an outdoor kitchen is worth.
