HDTV Antenna, Receivership, Signals and more on HDTV

Sam was doing research about HDTVs.

For a start, he was practically and initially confused about HDTVs. Sam considers himself to be a television expert. In fact, he is a certified TV addict ... a couch potato!

Sam has so far purchased around 20 television sets during his lifetime. However, all his past TV purchases were analogs, since these were the in-thing up until very recently.

Now, everything has changed. Sam feels that he has almost been left behind. It is time to move on and get along with the current and emerging technology in TV. He thinks that no one should be better than him in that aspect, because he is the most eligible and certified TV addict in the neighborhood.

If, like Sam, you think that the whole topic of HDTV is too complicated and complex, then read on and learn more as we help you de-mistify some basic HDTV concepts.

HDTV

High definition television sets or HDTVs are now becoming very popular among TV addicts and TV buyers.

The HDTV was introduced to the market in 1998. It was one of the most outstanding innovations the industry has come up with since the invention of the TV in 1926.

Because it is a new technology, HDTV units tend to be more expensive than the rest of the TV products offered in the market today.

High definition television or HDTV is a fast rising TV technology that has struck a popular chord in the consumer electronics and home entertainment markets.

The warm reception for HDTV depends on and is attributed to abilities and features that are far more superior than its earlier counterparts in the TV manufacturing industry.

On average, the price of a good HDTV unit is about 15 to 25 times more than the price of regular and conventional TV sets. According to many HDTV users, however, the HDTV viewing experience justifies the expense. HDTV is a positive advancement for the modern television viewing audience. The rapid uptake of HDTV has created a new trend in the media equipment industry because of its high resolution and distinct features that set it apart and make it outstanding among all the TVs out in the market today.

HDTV antenna

A downside for HDTV is its signal or HDTV antenna capability. Because HDTV uses a complex and sophisticated digital broadcasting technology, HDTV must have its own compatible and specially designed HDTV antenna, which is not compatible to receive or accept signals from analog TV broadcast transmitters.

Current broadcast technologies employed by all TV networks are still analog. It is estimated that a complete switch to digital TV transmission will be far costlier and more expensive for the whole TV industry.

In the case of the United States, which is one of the countries to switch to digital broadcasting in 2007, legislators have acknowledged the expense and costs that will go along with the switch.

Because digital TV transmissions will never be received by analog TV antenna, analog TV will inevitably be made obsolete.

Another downside to be considered, is that the HDTV, with its superior and digital broadcast compatible HDTV antenna may prove to be too costly for households with average and below average income. Ending TV entertainment for this demographic would be considered to be quite unfair, so there is much debate and discussion on this topic.

HDTV signal receivership

HDTV antenna is the external equipment or part of the HDTV that will set it apart from other and currently existing TV models and equipment.

For analysts and experts, HDTV antenna is the significant factor, or the key to the full-scale success and operation of digital HDTV broadcasts.

The issue is quite simple and straight forward. An HDTV antenna is only compatible with HDTV television sets. Thus, a TV antenna for an analog TV only works for analog TV and HDTV antennae are only for HDTVs.

As the popular saying goes, compatibility, just like in marriages, is the key to a harmonious life-long relationship. In the TV world, HDTV is married to HDTV antenna and one will not work without the other.
